FC United Women host Liverpool Feds in FA Cup first round proper – match preview

FC United Women welcome Liverpool Feds WFC to Broadhurst Park in the Vitality FA Cup first round proper this Sunday 13th December with a 1pm kick-off.

300 supporters are allowed to pay on the gate with prices at £3 for adults, £2 concessions and £1 for under-18s. A free live stream will also be available from 12:45pm on FCUMTV.

The team have already won five qualifying matches to make it to the first round proper for the first ever time and fear no-one in the competition. FC United Women's team manager Kamran Hussain said: “This is the furthest the women’s team have reached and we need your support. We’re delighted you can be there to cheer us on in person and also watch us online.”

United’s cup run began on Sunday 6th September with an emphatic 13–0 home victory over West Kirby Ladies in the extra preliminary round. Next up, Ashton Town were dismissed in similar fashion – 9-0 in the preliminary round.

Wakefield Trinity proved a slightly tougher test in the first qualifying round but they were still despatched with aplomb – 4-1. After three home ties, the Reds were on the road in the second qualifying round in mid-October as they won 5-2 at Norton & Stockton Ancients.

It occurred almost exactly 10 years since the men’s team recorded the exact same scoreline at
Norton & Stockton Ancients during their epic FA Cup run to the second round proper.

On Sunday 1st November, the final game before lockdown, FC United came from behind with two goals in the last 15 minutes to beat Chorley 2-1 at Broadhurst Park. They now host another fancied team and are underdogs again but the Reds have every right to feel confident as they have been beaten just once in a competitive fixture in over a year.

The Feds route to the first round proper has been shorter but achieved in equally impressive style with a 5-0 victory at Ossett United and a comprehensive 3-0 win at Fleetwood Town Wrens.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Hussain added: “It’s going to be a tough match against another opposition in the league above but anything could happen. That’s the magic of the FA Cup.”

FC United captain Kirsty Chambers, who scored the 85th minute against Chorley, said: "We’re all ready to go for Sunday. It’s going to be a tough game against a strong side but nothing we aren’t ready for as we’ve proven in previous rounds. We will come out stronger and we are more than ready for the challenge.”

And Chambers added: “We’re delighted the fans can be there as they have always played a huge part for us. We don't just play for ourselves we play for the fans too."

FC United versus Liverpool Feds kicks-off at 1pm this Sunday in the women's Vitality FA Cup. Can the women's team go one step further than the men's team and the youth team and make it through to the second round proper? To find out, get yourself to that football ground or watch live online. Bring on United!
