Matty Makinson agrees terms with FC United

Matty Makinson agrees terms with FC UnitedFC United are delighted to announce that we have agreed terms with 23 year old defender Matty Makinson who joins us from Colne, having started his career at Everton then Blackburn. The news of Matty joining was once again broken exclusively by FCUM Radio, and Ben Hughes caught up with him to find out how he felt about moving to FC: "Proud, can't wait to get going whenever the season starts and meet up with the lads, I know a few of the lads already and I know there's real quality in the squad, add to that the facilities and the fantastic crowd and it was a no-brainer really, when you know you've got a great set of fans backing you it always gives you that extra 10% without even meaning to, it's the 12th Man. I've played at Broadhurst before and it's so impressive, so I can't wait to be playing for FC. My career started when I was at Everton as a kid from 6-15 then I signed for Blackburn Rovers as a two year scholar then after that I then went to Cardiff for a while but then got injured and was out for a year, before signing for Warrington then Colne for two years. I'd say I'm an out and out centre half and I like to tackle, head and get involved in all the graft but I can also play the ball out of defence and I enjoy starting up attacks, I like to get involved wherever I can, I can't wait for pre-season to start and hit the ground running." A delighted Neil Reynolds said "When Brian and I sat down and discussed signings we knew that we had retained a great squad and so it was a case of identifying key players for important positions, and that's what we've done - I've been a great admirer of Matty while he was at Colne and then on loan at Atherton Colls. We didn't know that he was going to be available because he was on a contract but he's a big unit, he can play left and right, great in the air and can bring the ball out of defence, and I needed another centre half and he was our one and only target for the position, and he comes in and has an equal chance with everyone else to claim a shirt in the starting line up. We spoke two or three times and sold the club to him which we had to do over the phone rather than showing him round our home. but he'd played against us at Broadhurst and he wants to play at as high a level as he can do and the appeal of FC certainly got to him. He wanted to play for us and he is delighted to sign for us, and I am delighted that he's an FC player, as everyone knows with me it's not just ability that counts but the person that the player is, their attitude and how they'll fit into the dressing room and he's got all those attributes"
