Ask Me I'll Tell You : Aaron Morris

Ask Me I'll Tell You : Aaron MorrisHe's the swashbuckling defender who stepped up at FC and made the right-back position his own with 38 appearences, but did you know he wouldn't want to room with Michael Potts and he loves a bit of 'First Dates'? No? Then read on.... Q: What's your daytime occupation? I work in a number of primary schools delivering the PE curriculum on behalf of an external company for all the age ranges from 4-11 years old, I did a degree in Physical Education so it's something I've always wanted to do and worked towards doing, obviously since the lockdown it's not been possible to do. Q: How are occupying yourself during the lockdown? As I can't do my day job my friend owns a bar and grill and they're still open doing deliveries, they've been really busy so most evenings I'm helping out there by doing the deliveries and helping out in the kitchen. When I'm not working there I'm playing a lot of 'Call of Duty' and 'FIFA' on the playstation, and obviously doing lots of running and generally keeping fit.  Q: Do you watch any programmes at home that are on that you secretly like but wouldn't admit that you do? I still live at home so I've got to say my mum watches a lot of rubbish, though if there was one programme she watches that I find myself enjoying it's 'First Dates' on Channel 4, watching the different kinds of people that appear on there and you can fully see why they're struggling to find someone then others you're wondering how come they're struggling, then they'll have either a really sad or bizarre backstory and you know why they're on,  Q: Favourite all-time television show (apart from the one you secretly love that you 'have' you watch): The US Office - 100%, I love it and have watched the whole thing five or six times now and that's 201 episodes across nine series so it's a big committment - and I'm thinking about starting watching it again during lockdown I love it that much. Jim is my favourite character, he's nice and chilled and has a laugh with everyone, and he pulls some funny pranks, if I worked in an office I think I'd behave like him  Q: What's the worst self inflicted injury you've ever had? I've been quite lucky with injuries so I've never broken anything but when I was 8 on a summer holiday in Lanzarote and I was playing hide and seek with some friends I'd made over there, anyway I was running full pelt and slipped and banged my head on the corner of a bench by the pool, the back of my head split open and there was blood pouring everywhere, in the pool, on the side, it was a real mess but luckily it was in the evening so not too many people had to see it. My brother who was 14 at the time just picked me up and carried me up to my mum, she was absolutely mortified. I ended up with a load of butterfly stitches and still have the scar on the back of my head! Q: Best music gig you have ever seen and why? I go to loads so this is really difficult, I went to see Plan B at Haydock Racecourse last summer, that was really good, then I went to see a rapper called Kano, that was also really good, and then a while ago I saw Kendrick Lamar, also really good, so I don't think I could choose between them. I had actually planned to watch The Weeknd at the end of this year which I was really looking forward to but that's obviously all been cancelled now. Q:Guilty pleasures time: Food : I'd go for a Chinese dish, Salt and Pepper chicken with rice and loads of curry sauce on it, my local takeway has been shut since the lockdown so it's ages since I've had it, must be three months now since I've had it so really missing that now. Drink : In the last year or so I've grown a real taste for just normal cola, I don't know why as I've never really drunk it before but that's all I want after a game and I don't know where it's come from but it has to be in a can, not a bottle, always a just can after the game and I'm happy. Q: Last film you saw?  I've not watched many recently, probably the last one was 'Dumb and Dumber', I'd never seen it before but a friend referenced it and I had no idea what he was talking about, he was shocked that I'd never seen it so I had to watch it and it was quite funny, one of those daft films you can just put on and enjoy. Q: Biggest fashion faux pas? It's not clothing so much as a haircut I had when I was around 18-19, it was awful, like a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air flat top and I had that for two years and when I look back at pictures now I wonder what I was thinking about and why would the barber do it to me and say it looks good. I changed barbers when I finished University. Now this is the story all about how... Q: You're playing for Liverpool against United who you've supported since a boy, you've got an open goal in front of you, it's the last minute of the game and scoring sees Liverpool win the title and relegates United - what would you do? I'd like to think that if I was in that situation I'd just have to score, it's your duty as a footballer to do the best for your team, but I'd have to limit the celebrations as much as I could, definitely no badge-kissing ha ha - maybe a wave and a clap to the fans then straight back to the halfway line. Q: What would happen afterwards, friends/family reaction etc? My family is split between reds and blues so the city side would be loving it and my dad, oh I don't know what his reaction would be, I think he'd say he was proud of me but deep down he'd be really disappointed that I'd relegated United. Q: Favourite FC moment so far? There's a few but I think on the pitch was Lancaster at home when Doylie scored in the last minute to win the game, that was definitely the best moment on the pitch but off the pitch, it was the first moment I went to Broadhurst Park, which was around a year ago, I hadn't agreed to anything but pretty much as soon as I saw the ground it was impossible to say no, Reno showed my around and told me what the club is all about, obviously I knew a bit already being a United fan but the Gaffer gave me a deeper insight and after that it was 'How could you not want to play here?' Q: Would you ever consider becoming a referee if you had a good chance of making a career out of it? I think I would, having played the game and seen some decisions I think I would like to try it to see what it's like, as hard as it must be with some split decisions amd I think I'd like to be able to referee with common sense, by that time hopefully I'd have played the game for 20 years at a good level and those experiences of specific situations would help me when decision making and aid in becoming a decent ref. Q: The first half hasn't gone well, Reno is raging with the performance, he's just kicked a football boot into one of the other players face - are you eyeballing him or looking at the floor hoping he doesn't pick on you? This is a tough one as no matter what situation I'm in I always try to look someone in the eye so whether it's just talking to your mates or in the dressing room, though if he is going nuts and you know you've not had a good game yourself, you know you could be in for an earful - it's not a nice situation to be in if you're getting dug out in front of everyone, but I always try to look at him so he knows I'm taking on board what he's saying and absorbing the feedback. At Runcorn it was the first time I'd seen him go absolutely nuts and I don't think the lads expected it as we were winning at half time, we felt quite comfortable on the pitch with the way it was going, he made us realise that even though we were winning we could do much better. Then in the second half and then in the games that followed afterwards too, no matter what the score was we would make sure we're 100% on it with no lapses in concentration. We didn't realise it at the time but it was something we definitely needed, a 'gentle' kick up the backside and we went on a long winning run. Q: Is there any FC player/staff  that you wouldn't want to room with and why? It would have to be Pottsy, he's all action and he sips coffee endlessly all day, he's buzzing around and I think late at night or first thing in the morning that's not what I need! Q: if you could play another position on the team what would you fancy? I'd love to play up front, I'd absolutely love it! I used to play there when I was 11 or 12 and found myself moving back as I got older but I'd love to play there, especially for FC because we're so attacking, loads of crosses coming in, loads of balls in behind, I'd be just floating around feeding off those and linking up with the fantastic attacking players we've got, countless attacking options that I'd love to be joining up with, I try to sometimes coming up from right back but not as much as if I had a more forward role. When I scored the goal against Nantwich away it was funny because we got back in the changing room after the game and because of everything that had gone on after the game I completely forgot I'd scored the winner, it was only when the lads congratulated me, I was just pleased that we'd played so well and I'd had one of my best games, we'd changed our tactics and shape a little and it worked perfectly. Q: What's your favourite part of playing football? It's got to be winning, just winning. The camraderie with the lads, meeting new people, the training is all good but if we don't win then I don't enjoy my Saturdays or Tuesdays or whenever it is we play. The day after I'm still disappointed if we've not won. Q: Record for keepy-ups (kick ups etc)? I've not owned a football for years but easily triple figures - well over 200 with alternate feet. Q: How many press-ups can you do before your arms start trembling like a dog doing its business? I'm terrible at them, when my team in training has lost and the punishment is press-ups, let's say we've had to do 50 and everyone has finished and gone back to the changing rooms I'm still there doing mine, I'd be happy to get 10 out. I've been doing some as part of my home training regime  Q: Any one handed ones? Definitely not, I can barely do two handed ones so a one handed one would be disastrous. Q: Do you have any talents or abilities other than on the pitch? I always wished I could sing or play an instrument, I did have a keyboard my dad got me when I was younger but I really struggled, would be great to be able to master the piano or a guitar. I'd have to say FIFA is my main strength, if anyone fancies a game then my PSN ID is AaronMo_14 Q: What's the worst initiation you've ever had to do when joining a new team? I had to stand up in a crowded restaurant for FC with everyone looking, that was really bad as it was not just in front of the team, I sang 'Fill me in' by Craig David, it was nerve-wracking but it went down really well, I was pleased with my performance and by the time I got to the chorus people were joining in, they loved it!
