FC United put five past Hyde United to go 15 unbeatenTunde Owolabi, Regan Linney, and Curtis Jones got the goals as FC United won 5-1 away at local rivals Hyde United on Saturday afternoon.

Owolabi’s first half brace takes him up to an incredible 27 goals in 28 appearances this season whilst Linney’s double puts him on 11. The Reds remain in third place in the Bet Victor Northern Premier Division, one point behind second place Lancaster City but with two games in hand.

From the off FC United put in a superb performance controlling the game in the early going and looking confident in possession and dangerous on each attack.

Tunde went close with two efforts early on, but couldn’t quite get his attempts on target. Despite having the advantage early it was the home team that went close next, with Tom Pratt breaking free and producing a superb reaction save from Cameron Belford.

Just before the half hour mark FC United took the lead thanks to a superb solo effort from Linney who broke free on the left, working enough space to just get his shot away before smashing home.

Five minutes before the break, the Reds doubled their lead as Owolabi powered his way into the box and fired home low into the bottom corner, his effort hitting the bottom of the post on the way in.

There was still enough time for Tunde to add a third before the break. Belford cleared a Hyde corner and the FC United forward got onto the ball and coolly put it away to all but seal the game at on the stroke of halftime.

During the second half the Reds kept the momentum going as they controlled possession once more, looking confident on the ball, being dominant for the majority of the half.

Linney added his second and FC’s fourth just after the hour mark, again another quick break from the back finished off in style by Linney.

However, the goal scoring wasn’t finished, a series of corners saw the pressure building and Jones saw his header hit the underside of the bar and bounce over the line, making it 5-0 and a comfortable victory was sealed. The centre-back’s first goal for the club.

The home team did grab a consolation goal from the penalty spot in added time but it was FC United’s afternoon. The win carries on an amazing run of results, with FC United now breathing down the necks of the top two, South Shields and Lancaster City.

Next up for FC United is an away trip to either Barrow or Atherton in the Buildbase FA Trophy next Saturday, with the two meeting in their replay on Tuesday evening.

Website man of the match: Regan Linney – had a great game yet again, set the scoring off with a superb solo effort and looked confident throughout the game.
