FC UNITED of MANCHESTER 4 CHESTER FC 1
FC United of Manchester, managed by Dave Chadwick (in the temporary absence of Neil Reynolds) recorded another excellent pre-season victory with this 4-1 home win against National League North outfit Chester FC at Broadhurst Park on Tuesday evening.

It didn’t take that long for the Reds to race into an early lead. After Mike Donohue was impeded on the edge of the Chester FC penalty area on 10 minutes, up stepped PAUL ENNIS to expertly curl home the resultant free-kick.

On 16 minutes, it was 2-0. Jack Lenehan was allowed far too much space on the left before setting up MIKE DONOHUE who dinked the ball past Chester FC ’keeper Russ Griffiths and into the unguarded net.

The visitors were looking decidedly flat-footed at this stage and it was perhaps not at a major surprise when PAUL ENNIS blasted home a deflected goal number three on 32 minutes, this from the narrowest of angles.

With the half time interval looming, the visitors rallied briefly, and they briefly reduced the arrears on 41 minutes when JAMIE MORGAN was allowed to get round the back of the FC United defence before steering the ball past Paddy Wharton.

That made the half-time score 3-1 but any hopes of a Chester FC comeback were thwarted on 63 minutes when CHRIS DOYLE headed home goal number four for FC United following a corner.

The result will have raised more questions than answers for a Chester FC side who travel to Boston United in their opening National League North fixture on Saturday.

A heated post match de-brief was still taking place in the away dressing room fully thirty minutes after the full time whistle.

As for FC United, they continue their pre-season campaign with the visit of Runcorn Linnets FC to Broadhurst Park on Saturday afternoon (KO 3.00 p.m.)
