FC United fight back to beat Telford
FC United came from behind to beat Telford 3-1 at Broadhurst Park on Saturday afternoon and move out of the relegation zone.

Henry Cowan put the visitors one up inside three minutes with Tommy Greaves and a Jason Gilchrist brace giving United a much needed three points.

The Bucks signalled their intentions straight from the start winning a corner in the first minute which was cleared, but just a minute later Cowan tried a speculative shot from 25 yards which seemed to move in the air and beat Lloyd Aliinson in the United goal .

The Reds settled down and tried to play some good passing football with Mike Jones looking particularly assured on the ball, Joel Senior always making himself available down the right flank. Joel Logan getting through some hard work on the left. The home side were pressing on for an equaliser, Logan drawing a foul on the left hand edge of the box which led to a free kick which Matty Hughes headed just over. Another period of good build up play saw Kieran Glynn causing panic in the Telford defence before slotting a through ball to Greaves who shot just wide .

The red rebels were trying build up some momentum but Telford were guilty of some niggly fouls that stopped United’s flow on several occasions.

United got their reward on 27 minutes when Mike Jones played a searching wide ball out to Gilchrist on the right who in turn squared a pass into the six yard box for Greaves to level the scores. The home side had the wind in the sails and drove forward in numbers, with Glynn being fouled as FC broke forward once more, Gilchrist hitting the free kick over.

The half finished with both sides playing some neat passing football but with no further goals.

Ten minutes into the second half United got their second after more good build up involving numerous passes. Logan doing more good work on the left, a clever flick from Jones which found Gilchrist in the box. He turned his defender inside out before slotting the ball into the corner. 2-1

From the restart Telford created a great chance to equalise within seconds but the lively Marcus Dinanga put the ball wide.

Again the home side pressed on Greaves breaking down the left but his cross just evaded the on-rushing Gilchrist.

Substitute Steve Irwin bravely headed a ball on the halfway line which fell to Gilchrist, He looked up saw, the keeper off his line and lobbed him from fully 40 yards. A great finish that sent the 2,079 crowd delirious with just over 15 minutes remaining.

The tempo didn’t let up with Telford playing their part in an entertaing game. New signing Tyrell Palmer who replaced Jones made some telling midfield runs and passes as the game drew to its conclusion.

A very good game of football finished 3-1 to FC United, both sides contributing to an exciting game of football with the home fans once again in good voice.

Alfreton at home on Tuesday night presents another chance for this young FC team to propel United away from the relegation zone.

Website man of the match : A great team performance but Mike Jones showed maturity beyond his years. His positional play, passing and vision put FC on the front foot time and time again.
