Match Report
Whilst attention focused elsewhere an FC United side got on with business before being presented with the Championship Trophy. The Development Squad travelled to Ossett Town and won 6-0 with a pair each for Gideon Dosunmu and Jon Poizer as well as strikes from Cosmos Okeke and Frank van Gils.

It was a game in which FC United dominated possession, going ahead in the fourth minute, Sam Dee slid a pass between Ossett defenders for Ben Seol to run on to. His cross was knocked in from close range by Okeke. The fact that it was the only goal of the half was due more to inaccurate finishing than lack of effort. Okeke could easily have had a hat trick with more composure perhaps blaming a firm but uneven surface; heading wide from a Scott Cheetham corner and wide after Poizer had got him beyond the Ossett back line.

Poizer fired wide on seven minutes and Scott Cheetham was too high soon after. The move of the half came after ten minutes as the visitors swept forward from an Ossett corner and Jason Fowles saw his shot saved by Matt Wade in the home goal.

Early activity settled down midway through the half and chances were at a premium, Poizer hit the post on half an hour and Mike Taylor had a shot saved soon after were the only real threats although a bad bounce can be the only excuse on 38 minutes as Ben Seol got behind the defence but was unable to get a shot away as the ball seemed to force him to turn away from goal. He seemed to have set up Okeke perfectly but his effort was somehow shinned out of the ground.

Wise half time words led to more composure in the second half and that was reflected in the score line. On 54 minutes a ball forward , down the right wing was headed on by Seol to Fowles, his cross found Dosunmu who slotted home. He could have added to the lead two minutes later as Okeke provided the chance for a shot that was saved by Wade, Fowles had his own chance, rounding the keeper but seeing his shot cleared for a corner. It was from that corner the third goal was scored, a ball beyond the far post was headed back and onto the bar by Mike Taylor; the rebound headed in by Dosunmu.

From then on the question was merely one of how many goals would be scored, van Gils pounced on a bad back pass but saw his shot turned on to the post and collected by the keeper. Poizer and Biansumba were wide with efforts, the former, seeing his recent conversion to left back reversed, seemed particularly keen to prove that management were right all along.

A fourth goal came with ten minutes to go in bizarre circumstances. Whether a ball from van Gils was a scuffed shot or a pass forward may never be known but it seemed to be going harmlessly through to the keeper. Biansumba was trying to follow it in, presumably that caused sufficient distraction for it to roll into the goal without further assistance. Frank could have had a second, an effort chipped over the keeper hit the bar and man of the match Dosunmu was narrowly wide as the game drew to a close.

There was however still time for Poizer to answer his critics with a brace in the last couple of minutes. Firstly a close range tap in from a Fowles cross and in added time a defensive Ossett clearance was returned to him and his chip over the keeper dropped into thenet.

After the game the trophy was presented to captain Chris Taylor in the middle of the pitch with Ossett Town forming a guard of honour. The lads now move on to the task of completing a double with a cup semi final at Lancaster on Thursday , kick off 7:45pm.
