International Women’s Day at FC United of Manchester

International Women’s Day fell on Friday 8th March this year and at FC United of Manchester we had a fantastic day filled with lots of fun activities to commemorate the day and showcase the power football has in bringing people together through delivering positive change for our communities.

Broadhurst Park hosted an event in partnership with MCRActive, Winning Hearts & Minds, Morriso Health, Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club and Afrocats Dance.

Local schools Co-op Academy North Manchester & Our Lady's Roman Catholic High School, were invited to select 15 girls from each of their Year 9 classes who were disengaged with the sporting element of their curriculum.

FC United and our partner organisations aimed to inspire the girls to #feelgoodyourway by taking part in a variety of fun fitness sessions and activities, with a focus on learning to understand how to overcome the barriers which currently prevent them from taking a full and active part in sports.

Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club put together a number of fun fitness competitions with great prizes for the winners. Our Community Manager Jennie Swarbrick delivered a healthy eating workshop focusing on what footballers eat on training days and match days, to keep their energy levels up.

All participants then took part in a healthy lunch of salad, chicken wraps and fruit with goodie bags handed out to all participants which included drink bottles, magnets, female hygiene packs, home workout packs, free gym passes and of course free tickets to the upcoming FC United Women’s Team game vs Leeds United Women this Thursday.

Following the success of this event, FC United and our partner community organisations are planning to start a new Teen’s Bootcamp, which will be delivered at Broadhurst Park, with the aim to provide fun and affordable bootcamp style sessions for teenagers in the local area.

A big thank you to everyone from MCRActive, Winning Hearts & Minds, Morriso Health, Collyhurst & Moston Boxing Club and Afrocats Dance for working with FC United to make the day a success and all the students who participated from Co-op Academy North Manchester & Our Lady's Roman Catholic High School.

If you’d like to support our community programme, why not consider joining our cause and becoming a co-owner?
