FCUM Become Partners of White Ribbon

FC United of Manchester have stepped forward to support the annual White Ribbon UK to end violence against women.

 The Club recently announced that we would become a White Ribbon Supporter Organisation, and we have now officially partnered with White Ribbon and are delighted to announce that Kirsty Chambers the Women’s Team captain, will be the Club’s new ambassador. Kirsty said, “As ambassador for the Club it will be my responsibility to work towards encouraging as many people as possible to adopt the White Ribbon Promise; educate ourselves and others, and signpost people towards help.  I was delighted to be asked as this again raises the profile of our Club and our strive for equality”.

In the 2023/2024 season the Club will have a number of ‘Days of Action’ engaging with as many people as possible to drive home the important message that there is never any excuse for abuse. 

Now in its eighteenth year in the UK, the White Ribbon UK was originally started by a group of men in Canada (1991) who were determined to end violence against women. White Ribbon UK is part of the global White Ribbon movement to end men’s violence against women. After years of campaigning in the UK, our charity was founded to engage men and boys to take action and change harmful behaviours, individually and collectively. Our mission is for all men to fulfil the White Ribbon Promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about men's violence against women. We are the leading primary prevention charity working with men and boys across the UK to stop violence before it starts.

Each year the organisation urges as many men and boys as possible to wear a white ribbon. Supporters of the campaign are asked to promise never to commit, condone, or remain silent about men's violence against women and girls in all its forms. Although the focus of this campaign is ending male violence against women and girls, it is in no way intended to undermine the work that is needed to support all victims of domestic violence and there is a recognition that violence against men and boys is just as important an issue to deal with. Women and girls are also encouraged to show support for the White Ribbon campaign and can do this by wearing a ribbon or becoming champions.

The White Ribbon Promise is “I promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women and girls.”
